About the Artist

Theresa Hong is an artist and art therapist in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Influenced by my work as an art therapist, my art process is intuitive and playful. As I ask my art therapy clients to make art spontaneously, I began doing so in my own art practice at the start of my art therapy career. I take in my surroundings and experiences, and process them through color, form, and rhythm. I begin with the first shape, and from there, each shape seeks to balance the previous one until the composition is complete. It is a satisfying blend of free-flowing abstract forms with clean, hard edges - constantly pushing and pulling between the larger picture and the tiny details.

My process is as much about my body movements as it is about the shapes I produce; I find satisfaction and calm in creating curved lines and circles, as many viewers find similar feelings when taking in my work. My artwork encapsulates the vibrancy of my surroundings, and the constant energy and moving pieces in my home life. Most of all, my work communicates the joy that one can tap into through the creative process. Creating art is a spiritual path of getting to know oneself and sharing yourself with others, and my work seeks to inspire others to be curious about the joy and freedom on the other side.
